Since the dawn of cinema with films like Haxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages (1922), sex has been consistently infused with horror themes in movies, and before that, sex, whether implicit or explicit, has been a staple of many a great genre novel and short story. In comic books, long legged scantily clad women and men in tight space suits adorned the covers of golden age titles like Planet Comics, Jumbo Comics, Exciting Comics, and Sheena, Queen of the Jungle. When superhero comics waned in the late 1940s, crime, horror, and sci-fi comic books rushed in to take their place, offering gruesome and often lurid depictions of sex and violence sold on the newsstands to both young and old alike.
Sexy Horror is not meant to be a comprehensive or chronological review. The content will jump from one decade to another at random with emphasis placed upon books, films, and comic books or graphic novels that are readily available. I think you’ll agree that it is very frustrating when you read about something of interest only to find that it is so rare and/or expensive that it’s out of your reach. Here at Sexy Horror we will make it a point that the material will be available in physical form or at the very least, digitized for your enjoyment, but fair warning… most of the material I cover will be R-rated and some of it will X-rated. Spicy Nicollet Cover On Metal Hurlant 5 With Sexy Art by Russ Heath And Richard Corben
One of the original Metal Hurlant covers that never became a cover for Heavy Metal magazine was Nicollet’s spicy BDSM Monster Dominatrix cover for issue five, January 1976.
In the latest Metal Hurlant video from Horror MIke, he takes a close look at Metal Hurlant issue number five, January 1976. This illustrated Sci-Fi Fantasy Art magazine features art by Russ Heath with story by Mr. MIKE aka Michael O’Donoghue from SNL fame for “Cowgirls at War” originally published in National Lampoon’s Encyclopedia of Humor from 1973.
Corben continues with DEN while Druillet offers a humorous sci-fi tale called Hamilton Potemkine. Moebius returns with fantastic color panels for ARZACH. Dionnet supplies the story and Gal delivers more amazing line art for the next installation of CONQUERING ARMIES.
The amazing issue five of Metal Hurlant magazine format comic book also features some sexy fake comic books by Russ Heath, written by Mr. Mike on page three.

French Fantasy and Humor comic book L’echo des Savanes was known for a mixture of adults only fantasy and comedy comic strips along with funny animal stories and American reprints. In the April, 1976 issue we have a titillating Neal Adams Sally Forth cover! Wally Wood’s spectacular Joan of Arc and his hilariously raunchy SALLY FORTH Comics for Adults are also featured in this video for adults! In the Wally Wood Sally Forth stories, Sally is parading around butt naked. The Neal Adams cover of a naked and buxom Sally Forth is fantastic.

In 1971, Last Gasp Comics published issue number three of Skull Comix, an outrageous, sexy, and gore filled horror underground series of comics that would last for six issues. Featured in issue number 3 is the infamous TALES OF THE LEATHER NUN by Sheridan, Horrible Harvey’s House by GORE aka Richard Corben, and the very sick tale of family cannibalism called CLEAN UP CREW by Irons and Veitch.

Heavy Metal Movie’s Nelson B-17 Gunner and Sexy Taarna Action Figures Video Review
In 1981, audiences were blown away by the amazing animation featured in the Heavy Metal movie directed by Gerald Potterton and produced by Ivan Reitman. There wasn’t a bad segment in the film but the top two hottest segments were the “B-17” and “Taarna” sequences. Film-goers fell in love and lust with the sexy Taarakian Taarna riding half naked on her flying bird and battling thugs and monsters with her trusty blade. Dan O’bannon’s segment “B-17” featuring creepy zombie airmen brought back to life by the powers of the mysterious Locnar and hunting a hapless pilot in the jungle was also loved by fans worldwide.
In 2019, Incendium and Fig Biz companies produced a special line of action figures celebrating the 300th issue of Heavy Metal magazine that features variant covers of both Taarna and B-17 Nelson characters from the Heavy Metal movie.

Sex and Drugs and Reich-n-Roll: Metal Hurlant Heavy Metal Bound Edition starring VOSS
It is a fact that both the original French Metal Hurlant and it’s English counterpart Heavy Metal magazine were always pushing the envelope with sex and graphic violence in illustrated sci-fi magazines. Artists like Moebius and Philippe Druillet constantly delivered the uncensored adult themes loaded with sexy aliens, futuristic designer drugs, and gruesome gore that made us love these over-sized science fiction, horror, and fantasy comic books so much.
But one name sticks out in the crowd for delivering some of the most outrageous comic book stories that ever graced the pages of either Heavy Metal or Metal Hurlant: VOSS.
Voss showed up in the first issues of both publications and continued to supply readers with insane and superb stories for many years after that. Voss didn’t push the envelope: He lit it on fire and stomped on it. One of his most famous strips, HEILMAN, is a testament to the “don’t give a fuck”mentality that this master comic book artist had when he did work for Metal Hurlant – Heavy Metal.

Many influential artists from both Heavy Metal and Metal Hurlant illustrated sci-fi and fantasy magazines were involved in numerous film productions and their contributions shaped the world of science fiction cinema forever.
It should be noted that not only was Moebius the co-founder of Metal Hurlant magazine, he was one of the biggest contributors to the publication and his influence on the look of science fiction films of the 70s, 80s, and 90s is massive.

The Birth of METAL HURLANT 1975 to 1984 – Metal Hurlant and Heavy Metal Science Fiction Comics
This is part one of a long series on both Metal Hurlant and Heavy Metal illustrated science fiction and fantasy magazines.
A few years before Heavy Metal illustrated science fiction and fantasy magazine hit the stands to worldwide acclaim, it’s mother, Metal Hurlant would shake the rafters in a revolutonary new approach to comic books and illustrated magazines.
Metal Hurlant was formed in France in 1974 by Moebius, Druillet, Dionnet, and Farkas aka Les Humanoides Associes. Two years later, National Lampoon would publish Heavy Metal magazine which more or less reprinted the comic book stories from Metal Hurlant. We take a good look at the new 290 page illustrated book “Metal Hurlant 1975 – 1984” the prime early years of the magazine featuring art by Moebius, Druillet, Caza, Claveloux, Bode, and stories by Dan O’Bannon, Dionnet, and more.

Heavy Metal and Heavy Metal 2000 Sexy Sci-fi Animation
Heavy Metal magazine first burst on the scene in the U.S. in 1977 as an all new sexy science fiction fantasy publication through National Lampoon. Originally created by Les Humanoides Assoc., a quartet of creators including Moebius, Drulliet, and Dionnet and published in Europe under the name “Metal Hurlant” (Screaming Metal), the U.S. counterpart quickly gained popularity with a large number of comic book and art fans who wanted something more than the typical fare offered by Marvel and DC at the time.
Heavy Metal was so popular that in 1980, the decision was made to make a feature length animated film based upon stories from the magazine by creators including Richard Corben, Bernie Wrightson, and Dan O’Bannon.
